Oliver

Dachshund Mix,  5    years old

Diagnosis: Small Bowel Obstruction

Treatment: Surgery

The day I had to take my dog Oliver to the emergency I knew something was wrong. After multiple tests were done, we found out Oliver had a small bowel obstruction and needed emergency surgery. At that moment, I knew he had to have the surgery. He is my dog, my family, and I needed to do anything I could to make him better.

After they told me the costs of the surgery, I did not know what to do. I talked to the financial advisor at the hospital to try and figure out a plan because it was such a huge financial burden, especially during the current pandemic. I applied for care credit but it wasn’t going to be enough to cover all costs. The advisor I spoke to recommended Lexi’s Legacy. I researched the grant and discovered they help families in situations such as the one I found myself in. I decided to apply for the grant and I put my heart into my submission, because I needed to do anything I could to save my dog.

Oliver has always been a comfort to me in hard times. Working as a nurse during this pandemic, it has been extremely hard emotionally and physically. When Oliver got sick, it was an added stress and worry because he is the one that helps get me through my shifts. Knowing I am coming home to Oliver and his brother Leo gives me great comfort. Lexi’s Legacy gave me hope and helped give Oliver a fighting chance. They also helped to decrease the financial burden I was feeling. I am and will forever be grateful to Lexi’s legacy for their assistance during this hard time. It is amazing that there are programs such as these to help us in times of need.

Thank you, Lexi’s Legacy.
